Book Study Mode

Book Study (also known as "Frictionless Review") allows you to dive straight into reviewing a book's highlights without needing to prepare a deck first.

Concept

In traditional systems, you often need to manually create flashcards for every piece of information you want to review. Lektr simplifies this by treating every highlight as a potential flashcard.

Starting a Session

  1. Open any book in your Library.
  2. Look for the Review button at the top:
    • "Start Review": Begin a fresh session.
    • "Review X Due": You have spaced-repetition cards scheduled for today.
    • "Review Highlights": Passive review of all highlights.

How it Works

A Book Study session mixes two types of content:

  1. Due Flashcards: Any real flashcards you've created for this book that are due for review. These are updated with FSRS scheduling.
  2. Virtual Cards: Raw highlights from the book presented as flashcards. These are for Passive Review - you can read them and rate your familiarity, but they won't be scheduled unless you convert them to real cards.

Virtual Cards

Virtual cards show:

  • Front (Preview): A truncated preview or "Fill in the Blank" if detected.
  • Back (Full): The complete highlight text.

This encourages Active Recall even for raw highlights—forcing you to think about the content before revealing the full text.
